Our school, Karapinar Ibrahim Gunduz Anadolu Lisesi (KIGAL), is an Anatolian high school situated in Karapinar, Konya. Karapinar is a town with 48.000 population and it has immediately reminded when addressing the desertification phenomena in Turkey. Lake Meke, the crater lake, is the most important sight of Karapinar and is also known as “amulet of nature”. Our school opened in 1994 and it has been one of the most successful schools in Karapinar since then. Our school has 438 students and 22 teachers. It also has 16 classrooms, 2 science laboratories, a library, an IT laboratory and a conference hall. Our school has many successes in national projects such as TUBITAK, we got third place at TUBITAK physics projects two years ago. Every year our school send many Physics and Biology projects to TUBITAK. KIGAL offers students various social, cultural and sportive activities. Students join football, volleyball, table tennis and badminton tournaments in our town. Every year, we organize cultural trips to different parts of our country, join theatre performances and organize traditional end of year party. So, we prepare our students socially, culturally and mentally to the higher education. Our school management supports all kind of activities and projects. Our teachers are mostly young and ambitious. We have two different project team. TUBITAK team who prepares students to Biology Olympics and TUBITAK projects and ERASMUS + team who prepares different types of Erasmus + and eTwinning projects.
Our students join several environment related activities. These are planting trees to erosion area in special days, cleaning activities around our school and Lake Meke. Our students also join local and national contests related with environment.
